Hannah & Ryan’s Enterkine Country House Wedding

There’s something pretty special about photographing a wedding when the story started long before the wedding day ever did.

Hannah and Ryan are childhood sweethearts, so by the time they found themselves standing together at Enterkine House, there was already a whole history between them. Years of growing up alongside one another, shared memories, and knowing each other in that way that only comes with time. Back when all of this was still a long way off, Ryan would walk Hannah home from school. A small detail, but one that feels particularly sweet knowing where the two of them eventually ended up. Their wedding felt less like the beginning of something new and more like celebrating everything that had brought them here.

Enterkine House was such a good setting for it. Tucked into the countryside, it has that rare mix of feeling grand without being too formal. Everyone could settle in, catch up with old friends and actually enjoy where they were. Exactly how a wedding should feel.

And, in true Scottish fashion, it rained for most of the day. But it by no means put a dampener on the festivities. If anything, everyone just leaned into it. Plans shifted and the celebrations carried on without anyone giving the weather too much attention. There’s something I love about a rainy wedding day; it brings everyone a little closer together and gives the photographs an atmosphere you simply can’t plan for.

There was so much familiarity between Hannah and Ryan throughout the day. The kind that’s almost impossible to direct and even better to photograph. A look that says an entire sentence. Knowing exactly how to make the other laugh. Being completely at ease together even with a room full of people watching.

And because so many of their guests had known them for years, there was a real sense of shared history in the room too. Old stories resurfacing, big hugs, even bigger laughs and people who had watched their relationship grow getting to be there for this part of it.

Days like this are exactly why I love being a wedding photographer. It made photographing Hannah and Ryan’s Enterkine House wedding feel incredibly easy. I could spend less time creating moments and more time paying attention to the ones already happening.
